Friday Basics- Decluttering Small Spaces

Today my 14 year old took it upon herself to declutter a small drawer that is above our RV door. It is space we rarely go into, yet somehow it became stuffed with STUFF! My husband has had a confessed receipt collecting habit for years! He keeps receipts and then they end up in unexpected places like this area. I didn't even know they were there. I am happy to report that he is ready to make a change in his bad receipt stuffing habit. I actually have witnesses! So, we have him on check. He has agreed to reject receipts right at the cashier stand if he doesn't need them for future use, which is more often than not. What about you are you a receipt saver or do you pass on them at the register?

Like I have mentioned before minimalism is a journey. It is a mindset. It is a process that takes time. There are plenty of times we were right on track, but life can get busy and we can all admittedly backslide in this area. In the past having so many kids makes the process of going backward easy. However, I think they are all on board now with desiring to have a minimalist mindset.

I am so proud of how they have all learned not to be attached to stuff. Stuff can be so burdensome. When I saw the items that were in that overhead cabinet, I was glad my gal decided to declutter it. I let her have full reign to get rid of things that did not bring value to our life.

At one point she said, I think y'all are key hoarders! Well, I have no idea what those keys belong to and I am hoping my husband knows so he can downsize that collection.

This key ring is great for the minimalist. It can hold up to 14 keys neatly and compactly. Both my husband I have it.

How many eyeglass cases does a person need when they don't fit any of the current eyeglasses?

Why? Why do we keep these things? Oh, I know just in case...

Holding on to things "just in case" is part of a broken mindset for a minimalist. If the item does not hold current value to me and if it hasn't been used for the past three years it is out!

What have you been holding on to "just in case?"
