Friday Basics- The Toy Dilemma

Once upon a time we had a 900 sq ft designated kids homeschool/toy space, but not any longer. Living an RV can help to deal with the toy dilemma pretty quickly. However, this doesn't mean that toys can't accumulate even with a small living space. Below is the kid's cabinet that is their downsized designated toy space.

More times than not I would open up that cabinet and my jaw would drop at the mess the kids made shoving items into it. So, at the beginning of the year I went through their piles and had two bags: Toss & Thrift. The keepers went straight into plastic shoebox boxes.

I immediately labeled each plastic box, and in them, I kept a box for blocks, train set, miscellaneous items and play food. As I went through their current stuff, I found so many junk items and yes, even trash because kids can do that sometimes!

I also keep a lego box too, but that did not go into their area because they seem to leave the pieces everywhere if they have free reign to get into them. So, we keep them in a storage building and bring them out to let them play with them, and then they go back as soon as they are done.

It's crazy how things can accumulate so quickly. We are really trying to be a lot more mindful of what we allow into our domain in the first place. We are learning less is MORE when it comes to toys. Kids can be quite erratic when their toys are in disarray and without order. Fewer toys = Focused quality play time.

Do you have a system for your children's toys? If so, I would love to hear about it.
